Aretha Franklin to perform with Condoleezza Rice
Written by admin on July 2, 2010 – 9:30 pm -Aretha Franklin has taken part in some great musical collaborations over the years, but her latest must rate as the most unexpected of them all. Aretha will appear at the Mann Centre For the Performing Arts on July 27 with former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The concert will raise funds for inner city children.
This does seem like a peculiar pairing, but Condoleezza Rice is a classically trained pianist and Franklin has done some classical singing in recent years. Franklin and Rice will be joined by the Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Rossen Milanov. They will perform both classical pieces and some of Aretha’s well known hits, such as “Natural Woman.”
The concert will be a bipartisan occasion, as Franklin is a lifelong Democrat and firm supporter of President Obama, and Republican Rice served under George W. Bush as Secretary of State.
