Amy Winehouse dies aged 27
Written by admin on July 23, 2011 – 9:21 pm -Amy Winehouse was found dead today at her home in London, aged just 27. The cause of death is at present “unexplained”, but her history of problems with drink and drugs are well known.
Winehouse had planned to embark on 12-leg European tour recently, but this was cancelled after her erratic behaviour during the first gig in Belgrade. Sadly, that would be her final public performance. |
Amy Winehouse released her first album, “Frank”, in 2003, but it was the 2006 follow-up, “Back to Black”, that established her as a major international star. The album earned her five Grammy awards and was one of the biggest selling albums of the decade. Her hit singles included “Back to Black,” “Tears Dry on Their Own” and the now rather poignant “Rehab,” which repeats the defiant lyric “They tried to make me go to rehab, I said no, no, no.” She also had a number two UK hit as a featured artist on Mark Ronson’s cover of the Zootons’ “Valerie.” Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before her personal problems and struggles with addiction began overshadowing her music.
Winehouse has become the latest music star to die at the tragically young age of 27. Others in the so-called “27 Club” include Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain.
Many stars have already paid tribute to Amy, including:
Mark Ronson – “She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.”
