McCartney announces album of standards
Written by admin on May 17, 2011 – 5:21 pm -Paul McCartney has fulfilled a long held ambition by recording an album of standards. Always known as the Beatle with the most traditional and melodic approach to songwriting, McCartney told Rolling Stone that he has wanted to record such an album since the days of the Beatles.
One apparent stumbling block to this project getting off the ground was Paul’s sensitity to accusations of “trying to do a Rod.” Rod Stewart’s American Songbook series will still be the first thing that many think of when they hear McCartney’s plan, but there is no suggestion that his album will be anything other than a one-off.
Commenting on the song choices, McCartney said:
“They’re just songs I admire, I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones. It’s get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine.” |
The album is due out in 2012 and will feature several tracks with Diana Krall.
For those who are more keen on the rocking side of Paul McCartney, there is also news of a possible collaboration with the Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl.
Next month will see the release of standard and deluxe editions of McCartney’s classic albums “McCartney” and “McCartney II.” Click here for further information.
