Soundman Bruce Jackson dies in plane crash

Respected audio engineer Bruce Jackson, who mixed concert sound for both Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen, sadly died at the weekend when the Mooney M20J plane he was piloting crashed over Death Valley National Park in California.
The plane came down at around 11 pm on January 29, 2011, approximately six miles from Furnace Creek. Jackson was 61. |
Born in Sydney, Australia in 1948, Jackson began his career in concert sound working for Roy Clair in the 1970s. During his long career, Jackson mixed sound for some of the greats of popular music, including Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Fleetwood Mac, Art Garfunkel and Rod Stewart.
Jackson won an Emmy Award for sound design and sound mixing on “Barbra: The Concert” in 2000. The same year he was head sound engineer for the Sydney Olympics.
Jackson was also an entrepreneur, co-founding the Australian audio, lighting and staging company, Jands, and later founding Apogee Electronics.
