Jimi Hendrix – 40th anniversary tribute

Written by admin on September 18, 2010 – 7:31 pm -

Jimi Hendrix died 40 years ago today at the absurdly young age of 27. Jimi has since been widely celebrated as one of the finest and most innovative guitarists in rock history.

To mark the 40th anniversary of Jimi’s death, let’s enjoy some of his classic performances.

Little Wing (Live at the Albert Hall, February 1969)

Hey Joe (Live At Monterey, October 1967)

The Wind Cries Mary (Live at Monterey, October 1967)

Purple Haze (Marquee Club, London, March 1967)

Red House (Atlanta, Ga, June 1970)

As a rock guitarist, Jimi was a visionary and he deserves his place among the greats of rock music. To coincide with the 40th anniversary of his death (albeit delayed several weeks), there are a series of excellent releases on the way, including deluxe editions of three albums (Blues, Live at Woodstock and BBC Sessions), and the West Coast Seattle Boy: Jimi Hendrix Anthology 4 CD/1 DVD set of unreleased songs, demos and live recordings.
