After a four year delay, the documentary “Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)?” has finally secured a distributor and will make its theatrical debut in September.
The documentary was directed by John Scheinfeld (The U.S. vs. John Lennon, We Believe) and first shown in 2006 at the Santa Barbara and Seattle film festivals. It has now been acquired by Lorber Films for theatrical distribution and DVD release before the end of the year. |
“Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)?” profiles the life and career of Harry Nilsson, who many critics and peers believe to be one of the most gifted singer-songwriters of all time. Among his friends and admirers were the Beatles and particularly John Lennon and Ringo Starr. Nilsson achieved 17 gold records and two Grammy Awards (for “Everybody’s Talkin'” and “Without You”).
Alongside the private and performance footage, the documentary includes interviews with Nilsson’s family and a large number of stars, including Micky Dolenz, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Al Kooper, Randy Newman, Yoko Ono, Van Dyke Parks, the Smothers Brothers, Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams, Robin Williams and Brian Wilson.

“Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)?” premieres at New York’s Cinema Village on September 10, 2010, and will be released on DVD before the end of the year.
