Keith Richards announces “Wingless Angels 2”
Written by admin on June 8, 2010 – 8:18 pm -A new collaboration between the late Justin Hinds and Keith Richards is on the way in September. “Wingless Angels 2” is a follow up to the 1997 album “Wingless Angels.”
Justin Hinds was the lead singer of the ska group the Dominoes and a big influence on reggae legend Bob Marley. |
Keith Richards became friends with Hinds in late 1972 during a trip to Jamaica. The Rolling Stones were in Jamaica to commence work on the “Goats Head Soup” album at Byron lee’s Dynamic Sounds Studio.
Keith Richards recently had this to say about Hinds:
“Justin is numero uno. He’s a diamond. When he comes to mind or when you hear his voice, you just get a nice warm glow. He was always incredibly attuned to what was going on around him, and he would calm other brothers down if they were getting too jumpy, or stop a fight from going on if he had to.” |
“The thing is he wasn’t really reggae. He was more rocksteady or ska—that’s what he was into. And on top of that, man, he had the best threads. [laughs] He was just an incredible dresser. I don’t know if he had the tailors working full time or what, but I’ll always remember his style—it was amazing.” |
“Wingless Angels 2” features recordings made in the year before Justin Hind’s death on March 16, 2005. Keith Richards is featured on guitar, bass and vocals.
The original “Wingless Angels” and “Wingless Angels 2” will be released as a double album, with lavish liner notes on September 23.
“Wingless Angels 2” is currently being streamed at the Wingless Angels website.
It has also been announced that Keith Richards is one of several high profile names who will appear on Sheryl Crow’s new album, “100 Miles From Memphis,” which will be released on July 20.
Richards plays guitar on a reggae-style track called “Ear to Ear.” |
