Dusty Springfield musical to hit West End in 2014
Written by admin on June 22, 2013 – 3:35 pm -A musical based on the life of Dusty Springfield is expected to open in London’s West End next year.
Springfield’s former manager, Vicki Wickham, and theatre mogul, David Ian, have contracted Sandy Toksvig to write the show, which will document the singer’s rise to fame and impressive career.
Wickham told the Daily Mail that she has been disappointed with previous shows about Springfield:
“I keep going to these and coming out going, ‘Yes, the music’s great – but it has nothing to do with Dusty! Dusty was extraordinary. Yes, she could drive you mad – all divas do. But there’s such a lovely side to her that should, and will, be told.”
The currently untitled musical will feature some of Springfield’s biggest songs, including “I Only Want To Be With You,” “Son Of A Preacher Man” and “Yesterday When I Was Young”. Producers are hoping to give the show a reading in the autumn.
