The Rolling Stones at the O2

The Rolling Stones rocked London’s O2 Arena on Sunday night during the first of their series of 50th anniversary gigs.

The gig opened with a lively, if slightly ragged rendition of their Lennon & McCartney-penned 1963 hit “I Wanna Be Your Man”. The next couple of hours was a nostalgia trip for those in attendance, who were treated to mostly excellent performances of the Stones’ biggest hits. A rare omission was “(I Cant Get No) Satisfaction,” which was scheduled to be the closing song but couldn’t be played because the venue’s curfew had already long passed.

The triumphant live return included collaborations with special guests Jeff Beck (“I’m Going Down”) and Mary J. Blige (“Gimme Shelter”), as well as reunions with former members Bill Wyman (“It’s Only Rock ’n Roll” and “Honky Tonk Women”) and Mick Taylor (“Midnight Rambler”).

Here’s some highlights of the gig, courtesy of YouTube users steveatgigs, Stonesfan62 and jeffou67.

The Rolling Stones return to the O2 for a second gig on November 29, and then hit the US for gigs at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (December 8) and Newark’s Prudential Center (December 13 and 15).
