Paul McCartney receives the Legion of Honour
Written by admin on September 8, 2012 – 9:13 pm -Sir Paul McCartney has received France’s highest award, the Légion d’Honneur (Legion of Honour), for services to music.
McCartney was named an Officer of the Légion d’Honneur by President Francois Hollande during a ceremony at the Elysee Palace in Paris today. Hollande joked that he preferred the Beatles to the Rolling Stones, and said that Paul had been his favourite Beatle when he was growing up.
Sir Paul said afterwards: “It is such an honour to be awarded this.”
The Légion d’Honneur was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, and comes in five grades – Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Officer and Grand Cross. Previous recipients from the entertainment world have included Sir Laurence Olivier, Barbra Streisand, Clint Eastwood and Liza Minnelli.
Paul McCartney’s On The Road tour is returning to North America in November.
The following gigs have been confirmed:
- 11 Nov – Scottrade Center, St. Louis
- 14 Nov – Minute Maid Park, Houston
- 25 Nov – BC Place, Vancouver
