700 ‘lost’ Thin Lizzy recordings uncovered
Written by admin on January 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm -As Phil Lynott’s fans commemorate the 26th anniversary of his untimely death today, they will welcome the news that a collection of almost 700 unreleased Thin Lizzy tracks has been unearthed.
The recordings, which span the years 1971 to 1981, appear on 150 tapes that Lynott reportedly gave to a friend. They include both unreleased songs and alternative takes of classic Thin Lizzy tracks. |
The tapes have been passed to Universal Music who, together with Scott Gorham and Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy, will decide what material should appear on a forthcoming Thin Lizzy box set.
Thin Lizzy are on tour this month, with former frontman of The Almighty, Ricky Warwick, taking on lead vocal duties.
Last November saw the release of the excellent 7-disc “Thin Lizzy – Live At The BBC” box set, along with a 2-disc version.
