55th Annual GRAMMY Awards – Nominations round-up
Written by admin on December 6, 2012 – 10:31 pm -Nominations for the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced last night on a CBS television special that aired live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Leading the nominations, with six each, were The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West. The Black Keys, Chick Corea and Miguel each received five nominations.
Summary of nominations for veteran acts
Bruce Springsteen did well with a Best Rock Album nomination for “Wrecking Ball,” and Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song nominations for “We Take Care Of Our Own”. There were also nominations for Tom Waits’ “Bad As Me” in the Best Alternative Music Album category, Bonnie Raitt’s “Slipstream” in the Best Americana Album category, and Carole King and Paul McCartney in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for “A Holiday Carole” and “Kisses On The Bottom,” respectively.
The Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package category included nominations for “Ram – Paul McCartney Archive Collection (Deluxe Edition),” “The Rolling Stones – Some Girls (Super Deluxe Edition),” and “Woody At 100 – The Woody Guthrie Centennial Collection”. The McCartney and Guthrie sets also received Best Historical Album nominations, along with The Beach Boys’ “The Smile Sessions (Deluxe Box Set)”.
Al Jarreau’s “Live” received a Best Jazz Vocal Album nomination, R&B legend Dr. John is up for Best Blues Album with his “Locked Down,” and Ry Cooder’s “Election Special” is nominated in the Best Folk Album category.
Ravi Shankar’s “The Living Room Sessions Part 1” was nominated in the Best World Music Album category, as was Hugh Masekela’s “Jabulani”.
The Best Reggae Album category was dominated by albums from veteran acts, including Jimmy Cliff’s “Rebirth,” Toots and the Maytals’ “Reggae Got Soul: Unplugged On Strawberry Hill,” and The Original Wailers’ “Miracle”.
