“20 Feet From Stardom” wins Critics Choice Movie Award
Written by admin on January 17, 2014 – 12:31 pm -“20 Feet From Stardom” won the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Documentary Feature yesterday, having been nominated for an Academy Award in the same category earlier in the day.
The movie saw off competition from “The Act of Killing,” “Blackfish,” “Stories We Tell,” and “Tim’s Vermeer” to pick up the Critics Choice Award at a ceremony broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA.
The award for Best Film went to “12 Years a Slave,” and the most trophies, a record-breaking seven, went to “Gravity,” including Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron.
“20 Feet From Stardom,” directed by veteran documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville, is a celebration of the backing singers that have proved such an integral part of the music industry, both on record and in a live setting. The movie features contributions from talented performers such as Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Judith Hill, Táta Vega, Jo Lawry, and Lisa Fischer. There are also appreciative observations from the likes of Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen.
