Liverpool to host John Lennon Tribute Season
Written by admin on March 26, 2010 – 10:17 pm -The city of Liverpool is to pay tribute to John Lennon with a two-month John Lennon Tribute Season later this year.
The John Lennon Tribute Season will commence on October 9, on what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday, and conclude on December 9, which is the day after the 30th anniversary of his death. |
There will be a series of live music, film, poetry and art events during the Tribute Season, including:
- the ‘Lennon Remembered’ tribute concert at the 11,000 seat Echo Arena on 9 December
- a birthday celebration at the Cavern Club on 9 October
- a Lennon-inspired international poetry competition
- a film festival
- visual art exhibitions at Liverpool John Moores University.
The John Lennon Tribute Season is being organised by the Beatles Story attraction, the regional tourist board, The Mersey Partnership (TMP), Liverpool City Council, Liverpool attraction, Cavern City Tours, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Liverpool ONE shopping and leisure complex.
Councillor Gary Millar, the city’s executive member for enterprise and tourism, said:
“This Lennon Season will be a fitting way to remember two landmark anniversaries and an opportunity for the city to celebrate the legacy that John left for all. I am positive that the numerous fantastic events taking place will provide Lennon fans with a meaningful way in which to celebrate his life.”

Prior to the John Lennon Tribute Season, there is the 27th International Beatle Week from 25 to 31 August 2010, which promises a packed programme of tours, auctions, musical entertainment and the annual Beatles convention.
