Diana Ross on tour
Written by admin on May 17, 2010 – 6:08 pm -Diana Ross’s “More Today than Yesterday” tour got underway on Saturday night at Citi Performing Arts Center in Boston and reviews from both fans and critics have been good.
In a review titled “Diana Ross still reigns supreme,” Lauren Carter of the Boston Herald claimed:
“Ain’t no hiatus long enough, apparently, to keep her from bringing down the house.” |
James Reed of the Boston Globe said:
“It was an evening of memories, as Ross said early on, and it was a pleasure to see her evolution from one decade to the next, from Motown ingénue in the 1960s to international pop star and fashion plate soon after.” |
Ross opened her show with “The Boss,” which suffered from sound problems that were soon rectified. She then launched into many Supremes classics, including “Reflections,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Come See About Me,” and “Stop in the Name of Love.” These hits were shown respect and performed in full, not as a medley with snippets of each.
With such a long and varied career, Diana Ross has a lot of songs to draw upon when putting together a 90-minute show. After the Supremes songs, the show focussed on her many solo hits and she made a point of performing the classics that everyone would want to hear, including “I’m Coming Out,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Upside Down,” “Touch Me in the Morning” and “Endless Love.” |
Diana Ross and Michael Jackson were very close friends. In his will, Jackson had said he wanted Diana to take care of his children if his mother, Katherine Jackson, was not alive or was unable to do so.
Diana paid tribute to Jackson in this comeback show by singing “Missing You” and his hit “You Are Not Alone.”
The encore song was “Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” which was an unusual choice perhaps, but reportedly went over well with the fans.
Here’s the performance of “Endless Love” captured by a fan at the Boston show.

I saw Miss Ross in Boston and Foxwoods and she was fantastic! Looking forward to seeing the Cleveland show next Friday.
Her voice sounded great and she appeared to be enjoying the moment on stage singing to the crowd.
Her vibe felt like it was coming from a place of appreciation and gratitude for the singing career she has had and the people she crossed paths with on her journey to super stardom.

As a 40 year plus fan of Miss Ross, It thrills me to see her still performing with the same glamour and audience connection that she did in the early 70’s. She is an amazing performer and an even more amazing person, raising 5 children, and maintaining her celebrity. You have to give it to one beautiful and amazing woman of our times.

I first saw Diana Ross with the Supremes perform at Expo ’67 in Montreal as a teenager. The pal that saw the show with me and I have tickets for her May 31st show at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, her only Canadian stop for this tour. It will be 43 years since we last saw her together and this will truly be a flashback to our youth. Amazingly, Diana looks like she hasn’t aged and from postings of those who have seen her during this tour, her voice is in top shape. This will be an event to cherish forever!

I too had the honor of seeing Diana at the Strathmore Music Center. I’ve seen her numerous times but this was the best time ever. Her voice is still in top shape. I hope she returns to the Strathmore again with this tour and the big band. Truly her best ever concert.
